Anil Sharma‘s blockbuster film Gadar 2 starring Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel released on OTT this week. The film’s actor Utkarsh Sharma got candid with ETimes and spoke about the story of the film relating with both older and younger generations.
Reflecting on how the story of Gadarhas progressed as per today’s times, he said, “Yes, obviously, we cannot just play on nostalgia.Honestly, it was not even our focus when we were making the film. It was after the film was completed that we realised that people are also connecting to the nostalgic value of it. But the main thing that we see when you write a story or when you work on a character as an actor, you don’t think, ‘Will it work in today’s time? Will it work in tomorrow’s time? or Would it work in yesterday’s time?’ You think, ‘Will it work? Will it work with every human from any time period?’ Because human emotions don’t change over time. People experienced love 100 years ago and we still do today, and we will still do it 100 years from now. The emotion is constant, and when it comes to the story, the inspiration was Arjun and Abhimanyu’s story which was a mythological story.”
“Nobody plans the story this way whether it will be entertaining for the youth or the older generation, we don’t plan it that way. We plan it in such a way that everyone likes it, a good story appeals to everyone. So, we thought the story has a lot of emotion, a strong family angle, and a love story. The film has a love story from the 60s, which is different from Gadar 1. Gadar 1 had a more classical love story, a very colourful 60s-type love story with poetry and other elements. By today’s standards, we have to upgrade certain aspects. But we knew that there was enough for all sections of society—old, young, women, men, there was something for everyone. And I feel very happy that I have received the same amount of love from the younger generation as well as the older generation. As an actor, I cannot ask for anything more than that. Very few films connect with audiences from all the different age categories,” he added.

Rajveer Deol says his brother Karan Deol’s wife Drisha Acharya brought ‘good fortune’ to the family: ‘All of us at home truly believe that’
