SRINAGAR: Five foreign terrorists were killed along the LoC in north Kashmir’s Kupwara in a gunfight early Friday, the second such operation in the area this week and the fifth this year.
J&K police ADG Vijay Kumar tweeted that a search is on for more such intruders after the operation in the Jumagand area. Two infiltrators were killed Tuesday in an army-police operation in the Machil sector.
Earlier, forces had gunned down two terrorists along the LoC in Kupwara on May 3 this year, one on March 24 and another on February 16.
Meanwhile, J&K police announced Friday a breakthrough in the murder case of a labourer killed by terrorists in Anantnag last month with the arrest of five suspects, two from the Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) /Kashmir Freedom Fighters (KFF).
Sehran Bashir Nada and Ubaid Nazir Laigroo were picked up with arms over a week ago after they were found missing from their homes following the killing of the labourer, Udhampur’s Deepak Kumar alias Deepu, by scooty-borne assassins on May 29.
DIG (South Kashmir range) Muhammad Rayees Bhat told a press conference on Friday that it took a lot of time and effort to crack the case and arrest the five. “The missing case (of Nada and Laigroo) was considered. Technical and human data was analysed, which led to reconstruction of the sequence of events,” Bhat said.
Nada and Laigroo were intercepted and caught at a checkpoint on June 6. “Further investigations showed more people had provided logistics support and hatched the conspiracy. Subsequently, three more accused were arrested,” the DIG said.
According to the DIG, the suspects were in contact with a JeM/KFF handler, Khalid Kamran, and carried out the murder on his orders.
