Covid-19: India reportes 412 new Covid-19 infections, 3 deaths in last 24 hours; cases of sub-variant JN.1 rises to 69 | India News

NEW DELHI: India has reported 412 new Covid-19 cases, bringing the total active cases to 4,170, according to the latest data from the health ministry. In the past 24 hours, three deaths were recorded in Karnataka, pushing the national death toll to 5,33,337. The country’s total case count now stands at 4,50,09,660.
The health ministry also reported that 4,44,72,153 people have recovered from the virus, with a national recovery rate of 98.81%.The case fatality rate is currently at 1.19%. Additionally, India has administered a total of 220.67 crore doses of Covid vaccines.
In a related development, six new cases of the Covid-19 sub-variant JN.1 have been detected, bringing the total number of infections of this variant in India to 69. Most patients are in home isolation, with no significant increase in hospitalization rates. Dr V K Paul of NITI Aayog emphasized the importance of enhanced testing and surveillance.
Despite the rise in cases and the emergence of the JN.1 sub-variant, officials indicate that the situation does not warrant immediate concern, as the majority of cases are mild and managed with home-based care. There has been no surge in hospitalization rates, and Covid-19 is often an incidental finding in those hospitalized for other reasons.
The Union Health Secretary Sudhansh Pant has emphasized the need for robust public health measures ahead of the festive season and urged states to comply with revised Covid-19 surveillance guidelines. This includes regular monitoring and reporting of Influenza-like Illness (ILI) and Severe Acute Respiratory Illness (SARI) cases.
Meanwhile, Kerala reported no new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, with active cases reducing to 3,096. The state saw a decline of 32 cases from the previous day’s count of 3,128. No new deaths were reported in Kerala today, while the total number of fatalities in the state since the outbreak stands at 72,064. The total number of cured, discharged, or migrated cases in Kerala has reached 68,38,761.
Health Minister Veena George assured that the state is well-equipped to handle the viral infections, despite the recent rise in cases.
