NEW DELHI: Congress leader Digvijaya Singh‘s barbs at Madhya Pradesh chief minster Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia evoked strong retorts from the two BJP leaders. While Shivraj Singh Chouhan slammed Digvijaya for opposing the worship of daughters, Scindia suggested that the Congress leader should not be taken seriously.
“Digvijay Singh ji, you stooped to such a low level while opposing Sanatana Dharma and Shivraj Singh Chouhan that you are protesting the worship of the daughters. This is an emotional matter for me, a matter of conscience. I worship daughters and will continue to worship,” Chouhan said attacking the Congress leader.
The Madhya Pradesh chief minister also asked the Congress leadership to make their stand clear.
“When the whole nation was doing ‘Kanya Pujan’ yesterday, Digvijaya Singh ji called this ‘natak-nautanki’. People like you can’t tolerate the respect given to women. I ask Mallikarjun Kharge and Sonia Gandhi that is worshipping our daughters a ‘nautanki’? Congress should clear its stand on this,” he said.
while addressing a press conference in Bhopal on Monday, the Congress leader had said, “I have not seen a person who does more drama than the Chief Minister (Madhya Pradesh), now even Prime Minister Narendra Modi feels threatened by him.”
Singh made the remark over CM Chouhan performing Kanya Pujan at CM House on the occasion of the last day of Navratri on Monday. During the function, CM Chouhan showered flower petals on girls, washed their feet and served food to them. The chief minister also fed the girls on the occasion.
‘Do you take Digvijaya Singh seriously?
Meanwhile, Union minister Jyotiraditya Scindia, when asked about Digvijaya’s dig that he had run away from contesting assembly elections out of fear, said “Do you take Digvijaya Singh seriously?”
Digvijaya had said that the Congress gave ticket to K P Singh from Shivpuri even though it had promised ticket from the constituency to former BJP MLA Virendra Raghuvanshi because it was expected that Jyotiraditya Scindia would be contesting from Shivpuri as the BJP candidate.
In 2018, the BJP’s Yashodhara Raje Scindia had won from Shivpuri but she declined to contest this time citing health reasons.

The Congress is going all out to seek revenge from the BJP in this assembly elections. In 2018, the Congress formed a government under Kamal Nath. However, Jyotiraditya Scindia revolted against the party and joined hands with the BJP. That paved the way for the return of the BJP with Shivraj Singh Chouhan becoming the chief minister once again.
However, the Congress ran into alliance trouble with Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Singh accusing the grand old party of betrayal over failed seat sharing. Another INDIA party AAP is also in the fray in the state elections.
The BJP, which has been ruling the state since 2003 except for the short period of 15-month Congress rule, has to battle anti-incumbency to retain power. The ruling BJP has fielded three Union ministers in the next month’s assembly elections.
