Congress: Pilot to go ahead with fast, Congress calls it ‘anti-party’ | India News

JAIPUR: Former Rajasthan deputy CM Sachin Pilot said he will go ahead with his daylong fast on Tuesday to press for his demand for action on charges of corruption during the previous BJP government in the state, drawing strong objection from Congress that said Monday evening his protest amounts to anti-party activity.
Pilot has said he will observe a day-long fast at Shaheed Smarak in Jaipur from 11 am on the birth anniversary of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule, a social reformer.
However, sources said he had directed his loyalist MLAs to stay away from the event as he wanted only workers to participate in the fast to avoid it being seen as a factional event.

Sachin Pilot announces hunger strike against Gehlot’s inaction on corruption cases during Raje govt

AICC politician in charge of the state Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said he spoke to Pilot and told him to raise issues at party platforms instead of going public against its own government.
Pilot has claimed that he had written to Gehlot and the party high command last year, on March 28 and November 2, on the issue but did not get any answer. He alleged Sunday that the Gehlot-led government failed to investigate alleged corruption when BJP governed Rajasthan and announced a day-long fast to press for action.
Pilot has been asking the high command to settle the leadership issue in Rajasthan, but the high command had been busy with the Bharat Jodo Yatra, and now with Rahul Gandhi’s disqualification from Parliament, and has been unable to pay much attention to Rajasthan.
Pilot is now certain that with just a few months to the assembly election remaining not much is going to change, and he is upping the ante to get the high command involved in state affairs so that he has a fair say in ticket distribution, political observers said.
His allegation that Gehlot and former CM Raje were hand-in-glove with each other and his decision to highlight it would not only embarrass Gehlot but may find traction with Congress workers.
