Congress Accuses Samajwadi Party of Not Following Coalition Dharma | India News

NEW DELHI: The Congress on Wednesday accused the Samajwadi Party of not following coalition dharma and slammed Akhilesh Yadav‘s party for making unilateral announcements. Both the parties are part of the anti-BJP bloc INDIA (Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance). The Samajwadi Party had on Tuesday announced its first list of 16 candidates in Uttar Pradesh for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. This even as the party is engaged in seat-sharing talks with the Congress.
“Samajwadi Party is not following alliance dharma; SP is making one-sided announcements in the alliance. The list released yesterday also included many seats on which the Congress Party had a claim. What the Samajwadi party is doing is very dangerous and Congress itself is not getting information about it,” said UP Congress in-charge Avinash Pandey.
Avinash Pandey also denied holding any seat-sharing talks in Uttar Pradesh and claimed that this list was released without his knowledge. “Congress follows the coalition dharma well whenever and wherever it makes an alliance,” Avinash Pandey added.
The SP has offered 11 out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh to the Congress. Akhilesh Yadav had last week said that their “alliance” was off to a good start in the state. However, the Congress objected to this “unilateral announcement.”
“If the SP says that they have given seats to the Congress, it is laughable. We are a national party and if we are making an agreement with them, we have an identity of our own too. If someone feels otherwise, they should not be under any misconception. Congress has always been strong and in the coming years you will see it emerge as a big force. If the Samajwadi Party or any other party says that they have given seats to Congress, I don’t know what should I comment on it. This is a laughable statement. There is no unilateral decision, all the parties involved in an alliance come together and jointly make such announcements,” the UP Congress incharge said.
This is the second time that the Samajwadi Party made an alliance-related announcement without taking Congress into confidence. Earlier, SP chief had taken to X to announce its tie-up with Jayant Choudhary’s Rashtriya Lok Dal. According to the agreement, SP announced to leave seven seats in Western Uttar Pradesh for Jayant Chaudhary’s party.
