Buzz in Pakistan jihadi circles over LeT chief son well-being | India News

NEW DELHI:Amid persisting mystery about killings of Lashkar-e-Taiba operatives, there is a buzz in Pakistan’s jehadi circles about the well-being of Kamaluddin Saeed, one of the sons of the head of the ISI-blessed terror gang.
Sources here dismissed the chatter about Kamaluddin being whisked away by SUV-borne masked men as “rumour”, surmising that he, like his father (Hafiz Saeed),may have been deposited in one of the “safe houses” ISI maintains for its assets.
But the speculation about his whereabouts can only fuel the uneasiness that is learnt to have gripped jehadi quarters in the wake of killings of Lashkar’s operatives.
Over a dozen terrorists and their sympathisers in Pakistan have been lodged in ISI safe houses after LeT operative and prominent cleric Maulana Ziaur Rehman was shot dead a few days ago in Karachi’s Gulistan-e-Jauhar.
Two unidentified men shot him multiple times point blank while he was on an evening stroll in a park.
Information reaching here suggest that the security for Kamaluddin’s sibling Talha, who looks after operations against India and is seen as Lashkar’s second-in-command, has also been stepped up.
He had narrowly escaped an attack on his life in Lahore in 2019, a development that has been attributed to infighting in Lashkar.
Talha’s elevation as his father’s successor and his control over Lashkar’s finances have angered veterans in the outfit, said an intelligence officer.
Fearing a retaliation from Saeed and escalation of the factional strife that could undermine Lashkar’s efffectiveness as its asset, ISI has been working hard for a truce among the warring cadre. “They also have a Plan B ready — the formation of The Resistance Front in J&K and the patronage it has received from across the border is being seen as part of preparedness for any eventuality,” an intelligence source said.
The killing of Ziaur Rahman is reminiscent of the death of wanted terrorist and chief of Khalistan Commando Force Paramjit Singh Panjwar, who was shot dead by unidentified men while he was out for a morning walk in Lahore in May. This was the third such killing in September, the other two being of Abu Qasim Kashmiri in Rawalakot and Qari Khurram Shehzad in Nazimabad.
