NEW DELHI: Amid the ongoing political unrest in Bihar, Chirag Paswan, the chief of the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas faction), held a crucial meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Saturday. This meeting, also attended by BJP National President JP Nadda, has sparked speculations and discussions about the evolving political landscape in Bihar.
Post-meeting, Paswan informed reporters of the constructive nature of the discussions, indicating a hopeful future for the alliance. “The situation is very positive regarding the alliance,” Paswan stated, suggesting that more clarity on Bihar’s political situation will surface in the coming days. He expressed his concerns about Bihar’s current state to both Amit Shah and JP Nadda and received assurances on various issues.
Meanwhile, a significant core committee meeting of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is taking place in Patna, Bihar’s capital. Prominent BJP figures such as Bihar Leader of Opposition Vijay Kumar Sinha, Union ministers Giriraj Singh and Nityanand Rai, former Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi, and BJP Bihar President Samrat Chaudhary are participating in this meeting.
Adding to the political buzz, former Janata Dal (United) president Rajiv Ranjan (Lalan) Singh was seen at the residence of Bihar CM Nitish Kumar in Patna. Concurrently, several Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leaders, including Vijay Kumar Mandal, Lalit Kumar Yadav, Abdul Bari Siddiqui, Bihar Law Minister Shamim Ahmad, and Binod Jaiswal, convened at Deputy CM Tejaswi Yadav’s residence.
Amidst these developments, JD(U) leader KC Tyagi voiced concerns, and said, “NDA alliance is on the verge of breaking due to the irresponsible and obstinate attitude of Congress.”
The political history of Bihar has been marked by several pivotal moments. Nitish Kumar first became the Chief Minister in 2000, campaigning against RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav’s regime. Since then, he has held the chief ministerial position eight times. Notably, in 2013, Kumar ended a 17-year alliance with the NDA, expressing displeasure over Narendra Modi’s nomination as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate.
In 2015, Nitish Kumar, aligning with the RJD and Congress, returned as chief minister but broke away from this grand alliance in 2017, citing corruption and governance issues. The political narrative took another turn in 2022 when Kumar severed ties with the BJP again, alleging a conspiracy against him.
The current political maneuvers and meetings are seen as strategically significant, especially with the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and the 2025 Bihar Legislative Assembly elections. Speculations are rife about Nitish Kumar potentially aligning with the BJP, a move that could dramatically reshape Bihar’s political arena.
