NEW DELHI: Australia‘s foreign minister Penny Wong, the first gay female parliamentarian in the country, has tied the knot with her partner Sophie Allouache.
The couple, together for nearly two decades, exchanged vows at a winery in the capital of South Australia, as reported by The Sydney Morning Herald.
Wong, representing South Australia in the senate, expressed delight in sharing the special day with family and friends, as seen on her Instagram post.
A Labor senator since 2002, Wong holds the distinction of being the first Asian-born individual to serve in an Australian cabinet.
The marriage marks a significant milestone in Australia, where same-sex marriage was legalized in 2017, following the decriminalization of homosexuality in all states by 1997.
