“Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur ji, the brave son of the land of Bihar, fought a long struggle to create an all-inclusive governance system from the independence of the country till after independence. He remained dedicated to fighting for the rights of backward people, Dalits, poor and farmers throughout his life,” home minister Amit Shah said in a post on X.
Shah said the Narendra Modi government’s decision to honour Thakur on his birth centenary was a true tribute to his tireless struggles. “With this decision, the young generation will be able to know the immense contribution of Karpoori Babu,” he added.
Defence minister Rajnath Singh said he was deeply appreciative of the decision to honour Thakur. “Karpoori Thakur ji worked all his life for welfare of the poor and backward classes of society. Taking inspiration from him, as chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, I had made a law to provide reservation facility for welfare of extremely backward and extremely Dalit classes,” he said.
BJP president J P Nadda said Thakur was a great freedom fighter, teacher and CM, who dedicated his entire life to the welfare of deprived classes. “This honour is a true tribute to his lifelong struggle and dedication for the rights of the backward, poor, Dalits and farmers,” he added.
Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan said the decision was heartening as Thakur was a vocal voice of the poor, deprived, exploited and backward people. “As simple and easy-going as he was in his life, he was equally adamant about his principles. His life inspires us to continue working for the interests of the deprived sections of society,” he said.
In a statement, BJP said PM Modi had done justice with the poor and deprived of the country.
