MUMBAI: “Cinema is about two things—culture and economic growth. That is what Gujarat also stands for. So we could not have asked for a better location,” said filmmaker Karan Johar, host of the 69th Hyundai Filmfare Awards 2024 With Gujarat Tourism which will take place on January 27 and 28 this year.
To be held over two consecutive days for the first time in its 69-year history, the glittering ceremony will unfold against the vibrant canvas of Gandhinagar.Festivities commence on January 27 at the Mahatma Mandir Convention & Exhibition Centre with a curtain-raiser in which technical award winners will be honoured while the popular awards will be held at GIFT City on January 28.
“2023 was one of the biggest years in terms of Bollywood collections,” said the director, Times Entertainment Division (Worldwide Media, Entertainment TV & Digital Network). Hareet Shukla, IAS, Principal Secretary, Tourism, Devasthanam Management, Civil Aviation & Pilgrimage, Government of Gujarat, pointed out a happy coincidence: “2023 was a blockbuster year for Gujarat too. We received the maximum number of foreign visitors this year.”
To be also hosted by Ayushmann Khurrana and Maniesh Paul, the second day will see performances by actors Kareena Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Varun Dhawan, Kartik Aaryan, Janhvi Kapoor and Sara Ali Khan. At the press conference held in Mumbai, Varun Dhawan said, “Thinking about the big event coming up, I can picture a full house in Gujarat, showing how much people love this cinematic celebration.”
“I spent a lot of time in Gujarat recently… There isn’t a better place to have this celebration,” said Janhvi Kapoor, who recalled picking out a black gown for her mother, late actor Sridevi, to wear for their first family outing to the awards ceremony. “I can’t wait to be back.”
