BENGALURU: The Karnataka high court has allowed a murder convict a 15-day parole to get married.
Anand’s mother Rathnamma and his fiancee G Neetha had filed a plea seeking the emergency parole. He is lodged in Bengaluru Central Prison. Rathnamma said in her plea that both her sons are in prison and being an aged person with several ailments, it is her wish to see Anand get married to Neetha, his love interest of nine years.
Justice M Nagaprasanna directed the prison officials to release Anand for the period April 5 to April 20. “The respondents (jail officials) shall stipulate strict conditions to ensure return of the detenu to the gaol (jail) and that he shall not commit any other offence during the period,” the judge said in his recent order.
Anand was initially sentenced to life but the HC later reduced it to 10 years on his appeal. He has already spent six years in prison.
In the parole plea, Neetha had expressed the apprehension that she would be married off to someone else if Anand was not released and they did not tie the knot soon.
However, the government advocate had argued that there was no provision for parole to a convict to get married. It would be a “different” matter if a parole was sought to attend someone else’s wedding.
