Priyanka Chopra made some revelations about Bollywood recently on a podcast where the actress said that she was being cornered. She was tired of the politics and hence moved to Hollywood.
Now editor and screenwriter Apurva Asrani has also come out in support of Priyanka Chopra and said that the industry does have its favourites and hence they gang up to oust an actor from the entire ecosystem. Asrani further said in an interview with Hindustan Times, that these egos call other egos and tell them not to work with this person. Then, they use the media and powerful journalists to run campaigns to discredit one person. Further, false stories are planted about inappropriate behaviour on the set.

Asrani exclaimed that anyone who is outspoken or refuses to be disrespected and doesn’t demean themselves by agreeing to regressive ideas is pushed into a corner. Asrani said that despite the fact that PC had given two big hits – ‘Barfi’ and ‘Agneepath’ in the same year, there were newspapers which carried a headline saying that no hero wants to work with her. She wasn’t able to grow as an actor.
The writer also steered clear about Sushant Singh Rajput adding that he was snubbed at awards. He was projected as a flop despite the fact that his last film may have done 100 crore. He was harangued right till the end and the worse part is that people could hardly see the truth.
Apurva Asrani also took a trip down memory lane and recalled how a campaign was run against Priyanka Chopra in 201. He said, “She had given two big hits – Barfi and Agneepath – in just one year, but the front page of a city newspaper carried a headline saying that no hero wanted to work with her. They weren’t giving her due, she wasn’t able to grow as an actor and a star, expressed the writer. It was also made to look like he had an attitude problem, added Apurva.

When asked why she opened up about this only now, PC expressed, “When I was on a podcast, I was asked about the journey of my life and I spoke about when I was 10, 15, and 22 and so on. But, now I was confident enough to talk about that phase of my life. I think now where I am, I was okay enough to articulate what I felt. I think I had a very tumultuous relationship with what occurred but I forgave and moved on a long time ago and made peace with it a long time ago. That’s why it was easy for me to talk about it in an open manner, in a safe space.”
