Shamli: A woman was arrested by police in Shamli for allegedly killing her husband over an “illicit affair“. Her ‘lover’ and four others involved in the crime were also arrested while one of the accused is still at large.
The victim, Iftikhar, 38, from Jalalabad, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Umarpur village on December 30. Postmortem report later revealed “severe injuries around the neck”.Investigations into the case found a conspiracy “masterminded by the victim’s wife over her illicit affair”.
SP Shamli, Abhishek (goes by his first name only), said on Monday, “The woman’s lover, along with his three brothers were also implicated in the murder. Two others from Saharanpur were recruited to assist in disposing of the body.
On December 29, the woman took her husband to her lover’s brother’s house, where she mixed intoxicants in his tea. The accused then strangled him to death and dumped the body near Umarpur. To mislead the cops, they parked the victim’s bike at the crime scene.
Police said after the murder, a reward of Rs 1 lakh was given for disposing of the body.
