Will Sunny Deol be roped in to play Hanuman in Ranbir Kapoor starrer Ramayana? Here’s what we know

Nitesh Tiwari’s adaptation of the epic Ramayana has been a subject of considerable buzz for an extended period. It’s an open secret that Ranbir Kapoor will be stepping into the pivotal role of Ram in the film. Recent reports suggest that discussions are underway for Sunny Deol to potentially embrace the character of Hanuman in this epic saga.

An unnamed source claimed that Hanuman symbolises strength, and there’s arguably no one in the Indian film industry better suited to embody the essence of Bajrangbali than Sunny Deol. The actor has expressed interest in becoming a part of Nitesh Tiwari’s unique take on the Ramayana and is genuinely enthusiastic about bringing Lord Hanuman to life on screen. However, it’s crucial to note that these discussions are still at a preliminary stage.

What’s even more intriguing is that, beyond the Ramayana trilogy, Nitesh Tiwari, in collaboration with his producer counterparts, Allu Aravind, Madhu Mantena, and Namit Malhotra, is considering a standalone film focused solely on Lord Hanuman, with Sunny Deol cast in the lead role. The Ramayana, after all, represents only a fraction of the multifaceted narrative of Lord Hanuman. Nitesh’s vision extends to delving into these unexplored facets through a dedicated film.

The same source disclosed that Sunny Deol is giving this project serious thought. His involvement would indeed be a noteworthy addition to this ambitious cinematic endeavor.

While Ranbir Kapoor has been earmarked for the role of Ram, it’s been reported that Sai Pallavi is likely to portray the character of Sita. It’s worth noting that earlier discussions had revolved around Alia Bhatt taking on the role of Sita; however, she withdrew from the project earlier this year, citing scheduling conflicts. Furthermore, there’s speculation surrounding KGF star Yash being considered for the role of Ravana, though no official confirmation has surfaced as of yet.

Nitesh Tiwari’s rendition of the Ramayana is tentatively set to commence production in mid-2024.
