‘Will only benefit BJP’: Why Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma wants Rahul Gandhi to campaign in Assam | India News

NEW DELHI: Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Wednesday took a potshot at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, stating that if the young leader came to the state to campaign it would only end up benefitting the BJP.
Gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections, Sarma addressed a mega election campaign rally and took part in a road show in the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency.
“I want Rahul Gandhi to come to Assam and campaign. This will benefit the BJP and hundreds of Congressmen will leave the party,” Sarma said in his speech, a snippet of which he posted on X (formerly Twitter).

Assam’s 14 seats will go to Lok Sabha polls in three phases.
In the first phase of polls on April 19, 35 candidates are in the fray for the Kaziranga, Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Sonitpur and Lakhimpur constituencies.

Karimganj, Silchar, autonomous district, Mangaldoi, Nagaon will go to the polls in the second phase on April 26.
In the 3rd phase on May 7, Dhubri, Kokrajhar, Barpeta, Guwahati will go to the polls.
In the outgoing Lok Sabha, BJP held nine seats, Congress three, AIUDF and an independent one from the state.
