Why Abhishek Bachchan declined a role in Rang De Basanti

[ad_1]

Abhishek Bachchan recently shared that he was initially offered a role in the highly acclaimed Hindi film Rang De Basanti. However, he declined the offer due to finding it challenging to grasp the narrative presented by director Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra. Abhishek also mentioned that Rakeysh Mehra had approached Amitabh Bachchan with hopes of having the film produced under ABCL.

While Abhishek didn’t specify the role he was offered in the film, he expressed difficulty in comprehending the storytelling style during Mehra’s narration. Appearing on a roundtable, he said, “That’s when I realised Rakeysh is the world’s worst narrator. Just read his script, never get a narration from him.” He also shared that he was confused by the time jumps and the film was tentatively titled Painted Yellow back then.

Later, Abhishek collaborated with Mehra in the film Delhi-6. He humorously added that he didn’t even read the script.

Rang De Basanti, directed by Mehra in 2006, starred Aamir Khan, Kunal Kapoor, Siddharth, Sharman Joshi, Atul Kulkarni, Soha Ali Khan, Kirron Kher, Waheeda Rahman, Anupam Kher, and Om Puri.
