Watch: Khalistani leader Pannun threatens Hindus, asks them to leave Canada | India News

In a viral video, Gurpatwant Pannun, leader of the banned Sikh extremist group Sikhs For Justice (SFJ), declared that pro-Khalistan Sikhs have consistently shown loyalty to Canada. Pannun went on to threaten Indo-Canadian Hindus, urging them to leave the country.
This provocative statement comes in the wake of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s accusations against New Delhi regarding the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, resulting in diplomatic expulsions between the two nations.

Pannun, who serves as the legal counsel for SFJ and faces 22 criminal cases in Punjab, asserted in the 45-second video that Indo-Canadian Hindus had renounced their allegiance to Canada and its constitution, suggesting that they should relocate to India.
He also announced that a new referendum on Khalistan support is scheduled for October 29 in Canada, posing a question about the involvement of Indian High Commissioner Sanjay Verma in Nijjar’s June killing.

In response to this threatening video, Rupa Subramanya, an Ottawa-based researcher and commentator, raised concerns about the lack of attention to such threats when compared to the outrage that would ensue if a white supremacist made similar demands. Subramanya noted the selective response to such incidents.
Pannun further disclosed plans for protests outside Indian consulates in Ottawa, Toronto, and Vancouver on September 25. He vowed to disrupt the functioning of these consulates and urged the Canadian government to identify those responsible for Nijjar’s assassination.
SFJ has also called for the expulsion of High Commissioner Verma. Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a pro-Khalistan leader declared a “wanted terrorist” by the Indian government, was fatally shot by unidentified gunmen on June 18 at the Guru Nanak Sikh Gurdwara in Surrey, a city with a significant Punjabi population.
Punjab and Himachal Pradesh police have registered separate FIRs against Pannun for making threats and attempting to disturb peace, stability, and communal harmony.
Countries like Canada, the UK, and the US, home to sizable Sikh diasporas, have faced criticism for allowing outlawed groups like SFJ to engage in anti-India activities, including organizing illegal referendums and promoting Punjab’s secession.
