Vivek Ramaswamy: Out of Trump’s VP Shortlist? | World News

NEW DELHI: Donald Trump has indicated that he has made his choice for a vice-presidential running mate for the 2024 presidential campaign. However, inside his campaign, senior officials are still contemplating various potential candidates, compiling a “short list” from which to select, as per information obtained by Fox Business.
This development follows Trump’s significant victory in the Iowa caucuses, and he is expected to secure a win in the upcoming New Hampshire primary, unless his primary rivals, former South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and Florida governor Ron DeSantis, make an unexpected surge.
Should Trump triumph in New Hampshire, it might prompt Haley and DeSantis, neither of whom are currently on Trump’s VP shortlist, to withdraw from the race, potentially smoothing Trump’s path to the GOP nomination for a face-off against Joe Biden in November, the Fox News report said.
The VP shortlist reportedly includes Ohio GOP Senator JD Vance and Arkansas governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders, both recognized as emerging figures within the GOP and staunch supporters of Trump’s MAGA movement. New York Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, known for her recent confrontation with Ivy League university leaders over campus antisemitism, is also considered a candidate, albeit a less likely one.
Trump is well-acquainted with both Huckabee Sanders, his former White House spokeswoman, and Vance, a former venture capitalist and author who embraced the MAGA ideology, diverging from traditional Republican stances on trade and foreign engagement, to secure his Senate seat in 2022.
A notable absence from the shortlist is Vivek Ramaswamy. Following his withdrawal from the contest on Monday, Ramaswamy immediately threw his support behind Trump, appealing to Republican voters to elect an “America First patriot” to the presidency.
“There is not a better choice left in this race than this man right here. And that is why I am asking you to do the right thing as New Hampshire and to vote for Donald Trump as your next president,” Ramaswamy said after withdrawing from the primaries.
In response, the former President expressed his gratitude for Ramaswamy’s backing and hinted that the Indian-American leader is set to collaborate closely with him for an extended period.
“It’s an honor to have his endorsement. He’s gonna be working with us and he’ll be working with us for a long time. Thank you,” Trump remarked.
While the interest of Huckabee Sanders and Vance in the VP position remains unclear, Stefanik has openly expressed her willingness to serve in any capacity in the Trump administration. Trump has reciprocated with positive remarks about Stefanik, who has been a vocal proponent of the MAGA agenda since representing her upstate New York congressional district in 2015.
GOP strategists suggest that the VP shortlist is subject to change and advise that Trump’s claim of knowing his VP choice should be taken with a grain of salt. Trump’s knack for commanding attention and generating publicity is well-known, and his statements are seen as part of a strategy to assert his nomination as inevitable and to discourage voter turnout for Haley and DeSantis in New Hampshire.
