Vijay Deverakonda reacts strongly to Rashmika Mandanna’s deepfake video: Quick crackdowns and punishment will make people more secure | Hindi Movie News

Several Indian celebrities like Amitabh Bachchan, Mrunal Thakur, Naga Chaitanya among others have been raising their concern and calling for legal action after Rashmika Mandanna‘s deepfake video featuring her face on another woman’s body went viral on social media. And now, Vijay Deverakonda, who shares a close bond with the Pushpa actress, has reacted strongly to the controversy.
The Liger actor shared a news article about the government cracking down on deepfake videos and asked for stringent punishment to those who will be responsible for such actions in future.
“Extremely important steps for the future. This shouldn’t happen to anyone. Also, an efficient accessible cyber wing for quick crackdowns and punishment will make people more secure,” read his post.

On Monday, Ishaan Khatter also stood up for Rashmika against the deepfake video and told NDTV, “I condemn it. I don’t think deepfake is cool. I don’t think using somebody’s body or voice without their consent is ok. I don’t bat for that.”
Earlier, Rashmika had put out a statement on social media saying that she felt really hurt and expressed her worry for each one of us who today is vulnerable to so much harm because of how technology is being misused.

Not just Rashmika, but British-Indian Instagram influencer Zara Patel, whose body was featured in the fake video with Rashmika’s face, was also deeply disturbed and upset by it. She clarified that said she was not involved in its creation and wrote on Instagram, “I worry about the future of women and girls who now have to fear even more about putting themselves on social media.”
Meanwhile, IT Ministry has sent advisories to social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and YouTube, to take down fake content generated via artificial intelligence (AI) within 24 hours.
The advisory reiterated existing legal provisions that platforms have to follow as online intermediaries. It reiterated the existing rules under the Information Technology Act, 2000, including punishment for cheating by personation by using computer resources, imprisonment of up to 3 years and a fine of up to Rs 1 lakh.
