NEW DELHI: Two young individuals, Charlotte Wimer and Gray Segal, both 18 years old, were arrested for tearing down posters displaying images of Israeli children and adults kidnapped by Hamas during the on-going Israel-Hamas war. The incident occurred outside a private property at 201 East 23rd Street in Gramercy Park in New York.
Wimer and Segal, residents of the Lower East Side, were charged with criminal mischief.The posters, which covered the building’s wall, featured photographs of missing hostages and the Israeli flag with the word “KIDNAPPED” written in all caps. Video footage captured the two individuals in handcuffs after the incident.
A recent photo taken on Thursday afternoon revealed that new posters had been placed to replace the ones torn down. These posters highlight the 240 individuals taken hostage by the terror group during the horrific attacks of October 7 and have been prominently displayed across New York City to raise awareness about their on-going situation.
Unfortunately, over the past month, many people have been recorded vandalizing or tearing down these hostage posters in various locations throughout the five boroughs. This trend has been strongly condemned by city leaders as antisemitic and inhumane.
Several individuals have been involved in the incident, including an NYU student who lost a job offer, a Brooklyn man arrested after a scuffle while removing posters, and a public defender who retained her job after apologising for her actions.
