NEW DELHI: The Broadcast Editors Association on Tuesday condemned the INDIA bloc’s decision to “boycott” 14 journalists and anchors over claims that they wilfully “communalised” TV debates.
An emergency meeting of the BEA‘s general body passed a resolution demanding the withdrawal of the decision and said this was essential in keeping with “well-established democratic principles.”
A statement signed by BEA president Supriya Prasad said, “The Broadcast Editors’ Association condemns the unilateral decision of the opposition bloc – INDIA – to ‘boycott’ 14 journalists and anchors belonging to renowned news organisations.”
“By singling out a few individuals not only has the opposition alliance risked the lives of our reporters and anchors but also demonstrated intolerance towards individuals. We demand the immediate withdrawal of this list in keeping with well-established democratic principles,” the statement added.
