NEW DELHI: The recent sighting of Tucker Carlson, the former Fox News anchor, in Moscow has ignited widespread conjecture about the motives behind his visit to the Russian capital.

Georgia Republican Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene expressed her thoughts on the social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, saying, “Democrats and their propagandists in the media are spasming at the prospect of Tucker Carlson interviewing Putin.” She further emphasized the importance of a free press and lauded Carlson for his role in disseminating the truth.
In response to Greene’s remarks, Tass, a state-backed Russian news agency, reported that Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin’s press secretary, had previously mentioned in 2023 that the world would have to “wait and see” if Putin would engage in a dialogue with Carlson.
Carlson disclosed in late September 2023 that he had made efforts to secure an interview with Putin, but claimed that the US government had thwarted his attempts. “I tried to interview Vladimir Putin, and the US government stopped me,” Carlson revealed to the Swiss magazine Die Weltwoche.
