Totally an unacceptable state of affairs: Delhi HC to Tihar jail over Tajpuria’s murder | India News

NEW DELHI: Reprimanding the Tihar Jail authorities for their failure to prevent the murder of gangster Tillu Tajpuria, Delhi high court on Monday issued a notice seeking their response on the matter.
“This is totally an unacceptable state of affairs. The security of every prisoner is on the respondent and the court is unable to comprehend that if the entire incident was captured in CCTV installed in jail, why no steps were taken when the incident was happening,” the single judge bench of Justice Jasmeet Singh said. The judge watched clip of the murder of Tajpuria.
The court also sought a status report and ordered the jail superintendent to remain personally present in court on May 25, next date of hearing stating that response be filed within one week through DG (Prison), Tihar Jail, explaining as to how four knives were present in the jail complex and why no preventive or remedial action was taken if the incident was captured in CCTV camera of the jail.

The court was hearing a petition filed by deceased gangster’s father, Jagpal Singh, and brother Anil Singh requesting for a CBI inquiry in the case.
Advocate Ajay Kumar Pipaniya, counsel appearing for Tajpuriya’s father and brother submitted before the court that the jail officers and the culprits joined hands to kill his brother. “The jail authorities/superintendents are hand in glove with the dreaded criminals and due to their active collusion and connivance with each other, the fangs of crime have raised,” said the petition.

As additional standing counsel Rahul Tyagi appearing for the state submitted before the court that the case has been transferred to the special cell of Delhi Police for investigation, the court asked him, “What is happening here? I am unable to get it. How do you permit this? Can these inmates cut the bars and murder people? Has any official been suspended? How does it happen under your watch?”
Tyagi replying to the court submitted that it is a case of rivalry between the gangsters and that investigation is ongoing in the matter. To this, the court said, “Should I record that you are not responsible and prisoners are free to cut the jail bars? Unacceptable.” Tajpuria was killed in the jail by a bunch of rival inmates who stabbed him 94 times.
Meanwhile, a Delhi court on Monday sent the four accused in the case to four days in police remand. They will be produced before the court on May 12.
