TNC accuses Union rural development minister of ‘deceiving’ party’s delegation | India News

NEW DELHI: Trinamool Congress party has written to Union rural development minister Giriraj Singh on Friday, accusing his office of “deceiving” a delegation of 25 TMC MPs, when they were at his office on Wednesday to take up the issue of pending MNREGA funds to West Bengal.
In a letter signed by TMC floor leaders Sudip Bandyopadhyay (Lok Sabha) and Derek O’Brien (Rajya Sabha), the party on Friday accused the minister’s private secretary of leading them to believe that the minister was out of Delhi when the delegation landed up at his office.
Unable to meet with the minister at the Krishi Bhawan office on Wednesday, the TMC MPs led by Lok Sabha leader Sudip Bandopadhyay and party general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, held a meeting with officers of the ministry who were present, to sort out the issue of the pending funds. The TMC delegation was told that the “minister was not in office and had in fact, left for Bihar,” the TMC leaders claimed, in a written statement mentioning this. But it seems, a TMC MP met the minister the next morning (Thursday) in the Parliament House on the closing day of the budget session.
“We take serious note of the deception that was perpetrated upon us by your PS, leading us to believe that you had departed for Bihar and would not return to Delhi for one week. However, to our utmost surprise, it was discovered the following morning that you had, in fact, been sighted and had not left Delhi. Our Lok Sabha MPs from AITC saw you in Lok Sabha and confronted you directly on this issue, the letter to the minister said on Friday.
“Sharing misinformation like this was not only unethical and is not expected from the office of a minister,” the letter also said.
The letter further stated, the “TMC is fighting for the rights of those who are being deprived in Bengal” and expected the minister’s full cooperation. “We once again urge you to let us know the date of the proposed meeting with you,” the letter said.
West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee had sat on a two-day protest against the non-payment of central funds to the state last week and her party had raised the issue during the budget session of Parliament here.
