NEW DELHI: From today (Friday), rail passengers can plan their journey better and book their tickets easily even if they don’t know the exact name of the stations close to their origin or destinations as railways has introduced a new feature of linking popular areas with station names. For example, if a passenger keys in Vaishno Devi, Badrinath or Khatu Shyam or Noida, the ticket booking platform will automatically show the nearest station, making it easy for people to book tickets.
Similarly, it will help people to book tickets from newly renamed stations which they are not aware of. The railways has mapped 175 popular cities and areas with 725 such stations. “These changes have been incorporated in the journey planner station search of e-ticket booking website. The functionality shall be displayed on the journey planner and electronic reservation slip of the ticket,” a railway spokesperson said.
The facility will be available on the IRCTC website and mobile app for booking train tickets.
An official said passengers often face a problem while booking tickets if they are unaware of the new name of a station such as Rani Kamlapati or Deen Dayal Upadhyaya junction which were earlier known as Habibganj station in Bhopal and Mughalsarai in Bihar. “So, if a passenger types Bhopal, Delhi or Mumbai, the journey planner will show all the important stations near that location. That will help the passenger to book the ticket,” he added.
