Three foreign tourists killed in Dal Lake blaze in Kashmir | India News

SRINAGAR: A massive fire broke out in one of the houseboats near Ghat No.9 at Dal Lake around 5:15 am on Saturday. The incident resulted in the death of three Bangladeshi tourists and caused damage to five houseboats and three sheds adjacent to the boats, sources said.
A doctor at the main hospital said that they received three completely charred bodies in the afternoon.However, he said, their identities are yet to be established. The police however, maintained silence over the casualties. The deceased Bangladeshi tourists were staying at the Safeena houseboat that was destroyed in the fire, the locals in the Dal lake said.
According to an official of the Fire and Emergency Services Department, the fire broke out near Ghat number 9 of Dal Lake at around 5.15 am.
Deputy commissioner Srinagar and officials of the tourism department visited the fire incident site in Dal Lake where a massive blaze destroyed several houseboats early morning today.
The officials assured the houseboat owners that the issue of rebuilding of houseboats will be addressed on priority. He said that provision of adequate timber for reconstruction will also be addressed and a special committee will be formed to fast track the cases.
Earlier, a massive blaze had destroyed several houseboats near Ghat No. 9 in the Dal Lake, however, no loss of life or injury was reported in that incident.
The president Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Inc) Javid Ahmad Tenga expressed his grief and sorrow about the fire incident in Dal Lake that occurred today the 11th of November, 2023 in the wee hours. The five Houseboats worth crores of rupees reported completely gutted in the fire incident is indeed a great loss to the heritage houseboat population.
