Karan Johar’s return to the director’s chair with Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani has been met with a lot of love across the board from young and old. The film has surpassed Rs 300 crore at the global box office and is still going strong despite strong competition from films like Gadar 2, OMG 2, Jailer and now Dream Girl 2. One of the most loved aspects of the film was the use of iconic songs in the background and getting rights to those songs can give a headache to many, but when it comes to Karan it was simply done over a phone call especially with Diljit Dosanjh.
Diljit’s superhit track Lover has received more than 111 million views just on YouTube. It was used in the film when Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt’s characters go to live with each other’s families and the song was a sign that they are willing to go any lengths for their love. Now in an interview with Sucharita Tyagi, Karan revealed how he got the rights from Diljit. He mentioned how people have been so kind to him. He was told that the rights to Diljit’s song were ridiculously expensive, he simply called him to ask for the song. At first Diljit didn’t understand what he was saying, so Karan explained to him what he wanted and Diljit gladly said, ‘

Aap puch bhi kyun rahe ho? Haq banta hai aapka.

(Why are you even asking? It is your right)’ And that is how he got the rights.
Lover was released in 2021 as part of Diljit’s album MoonChild Era. The film also had Dharmendra, Jaya Bachchan, Shabana Azmi, Tota Roy Chowdhury and Churni Ganguly in the supporting cast.
