‘There’s No Way to Feel Sad’ – News JoJo

Barbie may have earned eight Oscar nominations, but its absence in key categories has stirred up talk about the snub. The film’s nominees, Ryan Gosling and America Ferrera, who were nominated for best actor and actress in a supporting role, respectively, expressed their belief that Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie deserved recognition in the best director and best actor categories. While Hillary Clinton and Whoopi Goldberg shared their thoughts, Gerwig and Robbie stayed quiet until recently.

At a Screen Actors Guild panel, Robbie expressed her excitement about the film’s success, stating, “there’s no way to feel sad when you know you’re this blessed.” She also acknowledged that Gerwig, the first filmmaker to have her first three solo feature films nominated for best picture, should have been in the best director lineup this year.

“Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as a director, because what she did is a once-in-a-career, once-in-a-lifetime thing, what she pulled off, it really is,” Robbie said.

Ferrera was “incredibly disappointed” that Gerwig and Robbie were excluded from specific categories. At the same time, Gosling declared that “there is no Ken without Barbie, and there is no Barbie movie” without the aforementioned duo.

While the controversy could potentially have a positive impact on Barbie‘s Oscar odds, Robbie is focused on the film’s societal impact, saying, “We set out to do something that would shift culture, affect culture, just make some sort of impact, and it’s already done that and some – way more than we ever dreamed it would.” That, she said, is “truly the biggest reward that could come out of all of this.”
