Oscars 2024 is set to be held on March 11 IST, and the Academy has reportedly tightened security, in fear of protestors, apropos the Israel-Hamas war. The Los Angeles police will increase its presence on Sunday night when the Academy Awards are set to take place. According to The New York Times, the Los Angeles Police Department stated that at least one group ‘would like to stop the Academy Awards’.
“It’s going to be our goal to ensure that the Academy Awards is successful, that guests can arrive safely and get into the venue. But, also, we are going to try very hard to make contact with the groups as they show up, and lay out the expectation that we as the police are here to support your First Amendment constitutional rights,” Commander Randy Goddard was quoted in the report.
While certain groups might attempt to obstruct traffic or employ disruptive tactics, others may choose to protest in proximity to the Dolby Theater, the venue for the Oscars. Law enforcement has reportedly indicated plans to enhance resources to assist in managing any demonstrations, ensuring that protests do not violate the law or impede the safe arrival of guests attending the Oscars.
The commander stated that his force is trying to ‘find that middle ground’ as his objective is to get the guests safely inside that venue. The police said the Dolby Theater, secured by the Academy, has railings, fencing, checkpoints, and almost 2,000 private security guards.
