Tamil Nadu: Saint-Gobain to invest Rs 3,400 crore in Tamil Nadu

CHENNAI: French construction and industrial materials major Saint-Gobain said on Friday that it is investing Rs 3,400 crore in a series of greenfield and brownfield investments in Tamil Nadu. This is set to be across the company’s different businesses and takes its total investment in the state to over Rs 8,000 crore.
Saint-Gobain’s global board represented by Pierre-Andre de Chalendar, Chairman, and Benoit Bazin, CEO met Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister M K Stalin and other state officials on Friday alongside the company’s first global board meeting outside of France in Chennai.
The chief minister, in the interaction, appreciated Saint-Gobain’s contribution to Tamil Nadu’s economy over the past two and a half decades of its existence here.”As pioneers in light and sustainable construction, we are well poised to provide building material solutions that combine performance, aesthetics, and sustainability,” B. Santhanam, CEO, Asia Pacific and India region and Chairman, Saint-Gobain India said, in a statement. The investment will be in across various businesses including glasswool, gypsum plasterboard, acoustic ceiling, float glass, solar glass, and others, he added.

Saint-Gobain has had a long history in Tamil Nadu. Besides its manufacturing facility in Sriperumbudur, Chennai, it also has a research facility -Saint-Gobain Research India (SGR India)- located within the IIT Madras Research Park. The company clocked €51.2 billion in sales in 2022 and has 168,000 employees across its locations in 75 countries .
