Stock market today: Sensex down by 350 points, Nifty slipped below 22,125

NEW DELHI: Equity benchmark indices closed lower on Monday as IT stocks and the banking sector dragged down the market, after a record-breaking run last week.
The Sensex was down 352.67 points or 0.48 per cent at 72,790.13, while the Nifty was down 90.65 points or 0.41 per cent to close at 22,122.05 points.
Power Grid Corp, L&T, Adani Enterprises, BPCL, and Tata Consumer are the top gainers on Nifty, while Asian Paints, Hindalco Industries, Apollo Hospitals, and Titan Company are the top losers.
BSE Midcap index lost 0.4%, while Smallcap index ended on a flat note.
Indian indices opened on a negative note in the early morning trade. Nifty 50, which hit record highs in each of the five sessions last week,slipped 33.20 points or 0.15 per cent to 22,179.50 points and the 30-share Sensex fell 158.57 points or 0.22 per cent to 72,984.23 points while the broader Nifty
Earlier, Nifty was trading at 22,222.50 at 8:03 am today, indicating a marginal opening above Friday’s close of 22,212.70 on the NSE Nifty 50.
Sensex and Nifty closed marginally lower on Friday.
Asian markets were mostly lower Monday while Tokyo’s Nikkei index reached a new all-time high.
On Wall Street, the Dow and S&P closed at record high on Friday, but the Nasdaq index slipped following a three-percent surge a day earlier.
