Sri Lanka: Sri Lanka announces free visa scheme for India, China, Russia

NEW DELHI: Indians can now visit Sri Lanka without a visa as the government has announced that they are issuing visa-free entry to visitors from India.
Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Minister Ali Sabry said that they are issuing fresh visas for visitors from seven countries including China and Russia.
“Cabinet approves issuing of free visas to India, China, Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia & Thailand with immediate effect as a pilot project till 31 March,” the minister said on X.
Last week, the Ministry of Tourism announced that a Cabinet Paper had been presented during the previous Cabinet meeting, proposing the issue of free tourist visas to foreigners from five countries who intend to visit Sri Lanka as tourists, ANI reported citing Daily Mirror.
The Cabinet also proposed to introduce an e-ticketing system for most of the tourist sites in the country in the near future, the ministry said, reported local media.
