Mumbai: A SpiceJet Bombardier Q-400 aircraft operating flight from Mumbai to Kandla on Saturday did an air turn back following problems with cabin pressure.
The Q-400 aircraft, VT-SQJ operating flight SG-2903, departed Mumbai around 10.30 am, climbed to 11,000 feet before changing course and commencing a descent to carry out an approach and divert to the airport of origin. The aircraft landed safely in Mumbai about an hour later. A Directorate General of Civil Aviation official said that the aircraft faced a problem with pressurisation.
A SpiceJet spokesperson said that after take-off, cabin pressurisation alert came and the pilot-in-command decided to return to Mumbai. “The air traffic controller was apprised of the matter and the aircraft landed safely at Mumbai. No passenger or crew discomfort was reported,” the spokesperson added.
For quite a few Spicejet passengers though the disrupted flight spoiled their weekend plans. “After it returned and landed in Mumbai around 11.30 am, the airline informed us that the flight will depart in the afternoon. They issued us new boarding passes. After a couple of hours, passengers started arguing with the ground staff as there was no information on flight status. Finally around 2.30 pm, the airline informed us that the flight has been cancelled. We had to wait another 40 minutes to collect our check-in bags and exit the airport. We had planned a short weekend trip, but ended up spending the day at the airport. We had to cancel our weekend hotel accommodation in Bhuj and now we await an airfare refund,” said a passenger, requesting anonymity.
Weekend flyers booked to fly on Spicejet Mumbai to Tirupati flight too were inconvenienced. “The Tirupati flight hasn’t been cancelled. The flight’s departure time has been revised,” said the airline spokesperson. The SG 3749, scheduled to depart at 1.50 pm, was still on ground at 4.30 pm.
