SpaceX set to launch 23 satellites on 2nd half of Starlink doubleheader

NEW DELHI: SpaceX is gearing up for the launch of 23 Starlink internet satellites in the evening hours of October 29, marking the second mission of the day. The liftoff is scheduled from Florida’s Cape Canaveral Space Force Station at 7:45 pm EDT (2345 GMT). In case of delays, seven backup windows are available, extending from 8:17 pm EDT to 10:47 pm EDT (0017 to 0247 GMT on October 30), as detailed in SpaceX’s mission description.
To catch this launch live, viewers can tune into SpaceX’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account, with coverage commencing about five minutes before liftoff.If all goes smoothly, the Falcon 9’s first stage will return to Earth approximately 8.5 minutes post-launch, performing a vertical landing on the drone ship named “A Shortfall of Gravitas,” stationed in the Atlantic Ocean.
This mission marks the eighth launch and landing for the first stage of this particular Falcon 9 rocket. The 23 Starlink satellites are scheduled to be deployed into low Earth orbit around 65.5 minutes after liftoff.
This launch follows a previous Starlink mission on the same day, making it a Sunday Starlink doubleheader for SpaceX. Earlier, SpaceX sent 22 Starlink satellites into the sky from California’s Vandenberg Space Force Base.
Starlink is SpaceX’s ambitious mega constellation project aimed at delivering broadband internet services to customers worldwide. With over 5,000 Starlink satellites launched into low Earth orbit to date, SpaceX’s future plans include deploying up to 12,000 of these satellites, with applications submitted for an additional 30,000, indicating an extensive expansion in the pipeline.
