South Korea issues evacuation order for Yeonpyeong Island near North Korea border

NEW DELHI: South Korea on Friday issued an evacuation order for Yeonpyeong Island, located near its border with North Korea, as reported by the Yonhap news agency. This decision follows a newspaper report indicating that the South Korean military plans to recommence live-fire drills in the area.
Yeonpyeong Island, situated close to the border, has faced persistent threats from the neighboring North Korea.
In November 2010, it endured a shelling incident by North Korea, leading to the deaths of atleast four individuals, including two civilians and two marines.
