A tragic plane crash at the Bayside Waters mobile home park in Clearwater, Florida, has left several people dead, including occupants of the aircraft and individuals in one of the homes impacted by the crash. The incident occurred on Thursday around 7 pm (local times), sending shockwaves through the community.
The ill-fated single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza V35 was reportedly experiencing difficulties, with the pilot alerting authorities shortly before the tragic crash. Clearwater Fire Chief Scott Ehlers confirmed that the pilot communicated an emergency to St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport just moments before the aircraft went off radar, approximately 3 miles north of a runway.
The crash site, within the Bayside Waters park, resulted in the plane colliding with one home, causing significant damage. At least three homes in the vicinity also suffered fire damage, although firefighters were able to swiftly extinguish the flames, minimizing further destruction.
Fire Chief Scott Ehlers, speaking at a news conference, revealed that the aircraft was located within one of the structures affected by the crash. While the exact number of casualties remains undisclosed, Chief Ehlers acknowledged that several people aboard the plane and in the impacted residence lost their lives.
The St. Pete–Clearwater International Airport, situated approximately 7 miles southeast of Clearwater, will be cooperating with federal investigators who will examine the crash site to determine the cause of this tragic incident.
