NEW DELHI: Arunachal Pradesh finds mention in our oldest sacred books and no one has the power to cast an evil eye on our territory, said Union home minister Amit Shah on Monday in a clear swipe at China after it recently published new names for 11 towns located in the eastern region of the state.

“The land on which the first ray of the Sun falls in India was named Arunachal Pradesh by Lord Parshuram. Since then this earth is known as the Land of the Rising Sun. It is a resplendent jewel in the crown of Mother India,” said Shah, who arrived in Arunachal Pradesh to launch the Vibrant Villages Programme (VVP).
Speaking to a gathering in Kibithoo, a border village, Shah said: “India starts from Kibithoo. It is not India’s last village but its first village.”
In another jab at Beijing, Shah said: “Due to the bravery of our soldiers in the Army and ITBP, no one can cast an evil eye on our border. The times are gone when anyone could encroach on India’s land. Today, no one can even occupy land equal to a needle point.”
China objects to Shah’s visit
Reacting to Shah’s visit to Kibithoo, China said it violated Beijing’s territorial sovereignty.

“The Indian official’s visit to Zangnan violates China’s territorial sovereignty, and is not conducive to the peace and tranquility of the border situation,” said a foreign ministry spokesperson
VVP scheme
The VVP is a centrally sponsored scheme under which 2,967 villages in 46 blocks of 19 districts abutting the northern border in the states of Arunachal Pradesh, Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh and the Union Territory of Ladakh have been identified for comprehensive development.
In the first phase, 662 villages have been identified for priority coverage, which includes 455 villages in Arunachal Pradesh.
