Sensex closes at 73,057.40; Nifty settles at fresh record high

NEW DELHI: Indian bourses on Tuesday registered gains for sixth consecutive day. Sensex increased by 349.24 points to close at 73,057.40 whereas Nifty climbed 74 points to settle at fresh record high at 22,197.00. 1,949 stocks recorded gains, 1,887 stocks declined , and 95 remained unchanged on the BSE.
Power Grid Corporation, HDFC Bank, Axis Bank were among the key gainers, while notable losers were Hero MotoCorp, Coal India, Bajaj Auto.
In terms of sectors, banking, media, power, and realty saw gains ranging from 0.8 to 2 percent each, while the auto and IT sectors, along with metals, witnessed declines of nearly 1 percent each.
Zaggle Prepaid Ocean Services surged by 14% after announcing an agreement with EasyMyTrip Planners Limited for a duration of three years. They will collaborate to provide integrated travel and expense management solutions to corporate clients.
Additionally, Tourism Finance Corporation witnessed a 5% increased, hitting the upper circuit, amidst reports of a block deal executed on the counter. Paytm shares hit also hit upper circuit on the exchange for third consecutive day and settled at 376.25.
The banking and financial services sectors saw significant gains, with Nifty Bank and Financial Services closing over 1% higher.
However, in the broader market, there was a slight decline, with Nifty Midcap100 and Nifty Smallcap falling by 0.13% and 0.53%, respectively.
