Sensex climbs 274 points to settle at all-time high of 65,479.05; Nifty hits fresh record of 19,389

NEW DELHI: In a remarkable streak, both the Nifty and the S&P BSE Sensex achieved record highs for the fourth consecutive session.
The BSE Sensex rose 274 points, or 0.42%, to 65,479.05, while the broader NSE index gained 68.8 points, or 0.36%, to 19,391.35, tracking gains from high-weightage financials and sustained foreign inflows helped offset a bout of profit-taking.
Eight of the 13 major sectoral indexes logged gains, with high-weightage financials adding 0.79%. Banks gained 0.32% to close at a record high and public sector banks rose nearly 2%.
Non-banking finance company Bajaj Finance led the rise in financials, jumping over 7% after reporting a 34% growth in new loans for the June quarter.
Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) have bought Indian equities worth Rs 1,144.67 billion on a net basis in fiscal 2024 so far. In contrast, FPIs sold equities worth Rs 1,400.10 billion and Rs 376.32 billion in fiscal 2022 and 2023, respectively.
On Monday, the Sensex had closed at 65.205.05. points. At the NSE, the Nifty opened at 19,406.60 and flared up to a 52 week high of 19,434.15 points.
