Sedition charges on two Kashmir scribes | India News

SRINAGAR: A special NIA court in Jammu has framed charges against two Kashmiri Web journalists for allegedly writing seditious material, the first such indictment in a J&K court.
Fahad Shah and Ala Fazili “brazenly advocated terrorism and glorified terrorists” to radicalise youths, according to the charges brought by the State Investigation Agency (SIA). The April 2022 case is related to the duo’s articles in digital magazine The Kashmir Walla.
A top police officer said the NIA court framed the charges Thursday. “Bringing it up to the stage of framing of charges after preliminary hearings in such matters is usually a very difficult task,” the officer said.
One of the articles titled “The Shackles of Slavery Will Break” was written by Fazili and published in the portal through its editor-in-chief cum director Peerzada Fahad Shah, the SIA said.
Shah and Fazili had under an active conspiracy with Pakistan’s support resurrected a platform to revive the separatists’ narrative with illicit funding from hostile foreign agencies and proscribed terrorist organisations, the SIA alleged. “The duo were in touch with secessionists across the border and some terrorists locally,” the agency added.
The charges have been framed under UAPA, IPC sections 121 (abetting/waging of war against government) 153B (imputations, assertions prejudicial to national integration), and for violations of the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).
