BENGALURU: Software behemoth SAP said on Monday it has agreed to part ways with Punit Renjen over differences on the role of German major’s supervisory board chair, which the latter was designated to assume.
“Punit Renjen has chosen to resign his mandate on the SAP supervisory board with effect from the end of SAP’s annual general meeting on May 15, 2024,” SAP said in a statement.Renjen was to succeed the co-founder of SAP Hasso Plattner as chairman of the German enterprise software company.
The supervisory board of SAP has nominated Pekka Ala-Pietila as a new member of the board and has proposed his name as successor to Plattner. Ala-Pietila will stand for election for a two-year term at the next AGM and, if elected, will assume the role of chair. He was the president of Nokia from 1999-2005 and a member of the SAP supervisory board from 2002-2021.
“After two decades at the helm of SAP, the company I’ve nurtured from its inception, ensuring a successful handover of the leadership baton is paramount to me and crucial for SAP’s continued success,” said Plattner, who has served as chairman since 2003.
Renjen was Deloitte global CEO from 2015 until his retirement in Dec last year. As global CEO, Renjen developed and executed a strategy that resulted in Deloitte’s revenues growing from $35 billion to more than $59 billion in just seven years. Deloitte has awarded him the honorary title of global CEO emeritus. Renjen grew up in Rohtak, Haryana, where his father had established an electrical switchgear factory.
