Indian cinema is increasingly embracing the values of political correctness and inclusivity. Dialogues, scenes, or characters that fall short of these standards are being met with strong criticism in the nation. The issue of censorship is also under scrutiny, raising questions about artistic freedom.
At the Bollywood Hungama’s two-day OTT India Fest, the second day kicked off with an engaging session titled ‘The Big ‘C’ Word! Censorship or Self-Control! What’s the Need of the Hour?’. The panel featured Sanjay Gupta, Sanya Malhotra, Richa Chadha, and Abhishek Banerjee, each sharing their insights on the necessity of censorship or the argument for its complete abolishment.
Sanjay Gupta, a veteran in the film industry, and known for bold and adult-rated films, discussed his reservations about including abusive language in his movies. He shared a valuable lesson he received from Salim Khan, stating that making a commercially successful Hindi film should avoid having the hero use abusive language.
According to Salim Khan, this principle has been followed by iconic actors from Raj Kapoor to Amitabh Bachchan, who refrained from using derogatory language on screen. Another piece of advice he received was not to disfigure stars, emphasizing the rarity of individuals becoming widely accepted stars in the industry.
Sanjay Gupta has gained recognition for his work in remaking American action-thrillers and crime films. Some of the notable films in his repertoire include Aatish, Kaante, Kaabil, Shootout at Lokhandwala, Shootout at Wadala, Jazbaa, Zinda, Karam, Mumbai Saga, and more. Notably, he has often collaborated with actors like Sanjay Dutt and John Abraham, who have appeared in several of his movies.

The movie boasts an ensemble cast including John Abraham, Emraan Hashmi, Kajal Aggarwal, Mahesh Manjrekar, Rohit Roy, Anjana Sukhani, Prateik Babbar, Samir Soni, Amole Gupte, and Gulshan Grover.
