Russian emergency helicopter crashes killing 3

NEW DELHI: An Mi-8 helicopter belonging to Russia’s emergencies ministry crashed into a lake in the northern region of Karelia, resulting in the death of all three crew members on board, according to authorities on Monday.
The ministry said on Telegram messaging app said, “The plane was on a training flight, the helicopter was flown by an experienced crew with thousands of flight hours.”
After disappearing from radar late on Sunday, the wreckage of the helicopter was located 11 km (6.8 miles) from the shore of Lake Onega, Europe’s second-largest lake, at a depth of 50 m (164 feet).
The ministry has dispatched divers and a remote-controlled underwater vehicle to the crash site. Regional governor Artur Parfenchikov confirmed that the crew members have tragically lost their lives, as reported by TASS.
The incident occurred in the Karelia region, which is composed of the Finnish Karelia region and the Russian Republic of Karelia. This region is situated in the northwestern part of Russia, between the White and Baltic seas.
