INDORE: In their darkest hour of grief, they brought light to others. The family members of at least eight of those who died in Indore’s temple tragedy have donated their corneas and skin for transplantation.
On learning about the tragic incident, the volunteers of Muskan Group rushed to MY Hospital, coordinated with doctors and officials and then gently approached the bereaved families to persuade them to donate their organs and save lives. By evening, the families of eight of the 12 deceased had agreed.
“Eye donation of eight victims – Indra Kumar, Bhumika Khanchandani, Jayanti Bai, Daksha Patel, Laxmi Patel, Bharati Kukreja and Kanak Patel – has been made possible with approval of their family members,” Muskan Group’s volunteer Sandipan Arya said, adding that skin was also taken from three of them for transplantation. “The eyes were donated to MK International, MYH and Sankara Eye Bank while Choithram Hospital received the skin donated by the deceased,” he said.
