[ad_1]

NEW DELHI: The Railways is going to introduce two types of Vande Bharat trains to cater to the need of intracity and intercity passengers. While the Vande Rapid Metro with eight coaches each would be operated for intracity passengers on lines of Mumbai local service, Vande Metro Regional trains with 12 coaches each would be deployed between cities for faster passenger transport.
These trains will be fully air-conditioned. Frequencies of both services would depend on the traffic demand. Recently, railway minister Ashwini Vaishnaw had said the Vande Metro shuttle-type trains will be introduced on a stretch of 100km between two cities and these will run at every 30 to 45 minutes on the European model.
Sources said the specifications for the design of both types of Vande Metro are being finalised by the Research Design and Standard Organisation, and the prototypes will be ready by June or July. These trains would be manufactured at three railway production units in Chennai, Kapurthala and Raebareli. These trains will have both seating arrangements and space for standing passengers as well.
While Vande Metro Rapid will have the maximum design speed of 90kmph, Vande Metro Regional will be designed to run at a top speed of 130kmph. Officials said the national transporter plans to produce about 600 Vande Metro coaches in the first phase.
