‘Rahul took support of terror organisation to..’: Smriti Irani takes aim at Congress leader in Amethi | India News

NEW DELHI: Union minister and member of parliament from Amethi Smriti Irani has accused Congress leader Rahul Gandhi of seeking support from the banned terror organisation Popular Front of India (PFI) to contest the Lok Sabha election in Kerala’s Wayanad constituency.
Speaking at a Yadav Sammelan event at her residence in Gauriganj, Irani said, “Rahul Gandhi took the support of the terrorist organisation PFI that made a list of Hindus to kill, to contest the elections in Wayanad.”
Irani, who is seeking re-election from Amethi, where she defeated Rahul Gandhi in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, also highlighted the absence of flags during a recent rally of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and the Congress, both parties Rahul Gandhi is associated with.She alleged that an agreement had been made between Rahul Gandhi and the IUML to forego the display of their respective party flags.
Further criticising Gandhi, Irani referenced a statement allegedly made by him in response to questions about contesting from Wayanad, where he reportedly remarked that the people of Wayanad were more loyal. Irani questioned whether this implied that the people of Amethi, where Gandhi had been an MP for 15 years, were disloyal or traitors.
“I want to ask, are the people of the area from where he was MP for 15 years not loyal? Are they traitors?” she asked.
Irani further emphasized the current political landscape, highlighting the Modi government at the center and the presence of a Yogi government in the state. She questioned Gandhi’s ability to bring about change given these circumstances, particularly in light of her victory over him in the 2019 elections.
She asserted that the BJP government had achieved more in Amethi in five years than had been accomplished in the previous 50 years, attributing this progress to the BJP’s “double engine” governance.
Irani accused the Gandhi family of perpetuating poverty in Amethi and neglecting basic infrastructure development during their tenure. She claimed that the Congress party has a history of disrespecting those who bring them to power.
