NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that he considers northeast as one of the most important parts of India and that is the reason why the grand old party decided to kick off the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra from the region.
Addressing people in Nagaland, Rahul said that the yatra kicked off from Manipur which saw large-scale ethnic violence last year.
Rahul added that the yatra, having already traversed Manipur, is set to continue its journey through Nagaland, proceeding further to Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and ultimately reaching Maharashtra.
“The idea behind the Nyay Yatra is justice. That there should be justice across our country, justice for our different religions, justice for our different states, justice for our different communities,” he said.

The Congress leader was speaking after interacting with locals in Nagaland’s Wokha during his ongoing Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra.
Earlier today, Rahul had said that the people of Nagaland should feel at par with others in the country despite hailing from a “small state”.
Addressing a rally in the heart of Nagaland’s capital Kohima, he said the idea of the march is to give “justice to the people” and to “make politics, society and the economic structure more equal and accessible to everyone”.
Gandhi visited Kohima War Cemetery and paid homage to those who made supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during World War II.
Addressing another rally at the High School Junction, he said the Congress had earlier conducted the ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’ from South India to Kashmir with the idea to “bring together different cultures, religions and languages”.
This time, the party decided to have another yatra starting from the northeast as the region is “very central to the idea of India”, he said.
“We started from Manipur and now crossing Nagaland. It’s a lovely experience. Thank you for all the affection. Jai Hind,” he said.
As the yatra crossed the state capital, hundreds of people, including women and children greeted him.
The ‘Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra’ would cover a distance of 6,713 km and 100 Lok Sabha constituencies and is scheduled to culminate in Mumbai in Maharashtra.
