Raghubar Das: Ex-Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das appointed Odisha governor | India News

BHUBANESHWAR: Former Jharkhand chief minister Raghubar Das was appointed governor of Odisha, a press communique from the Rashtrapati Bhawan said on Wednesday. Das will replace incumbent Ganeshi Lal.
Das served as the first non-tribal CM of Jharkhand from 2014 to 2019 and is a former RSS functionary. He is currently a national vice-president of the BJP.
The 68-year-old leader, belonging to the OBC community, was elected to the Bihar and Jharkhand assembly five times and represented Jamsedpur East assembly seat from 1995 to 2019.
Starting his political career during student days, the law graduate had participated in the Jayaprakash Narayan led political movement and was jailed during emergency. A founding member of the BJP, Das has also served as BJP Jharkhand chief besides as deputy CM of Jharkhand (2009-2010).
Ganeshi Lal, a former Haryana BJP president and former minister in Haryana, who was appointed governor of Odisha in May 2018, had been continuing in the post, after a five -year term.
The President also appointed Indra Sena Reddy Nallu, a BJP leader from Telangana, as governor of Tripura.
