NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a stinging dig at the Congress over unemployment during his speech in Lok Sabha on Tuesday, sharing an old anecdote about two friends.
“Once, two friends went to a mountain. Upon climbing down, they encountered a tiger. But they had forgotten their gun in the car. So they showed the gun’s license to the tiger as a proof they have a weapon. They did a similar thing with unemployment by showing a law,” he said, referring to the grand old party.
The Prime Minister was indirectly referring to the MGNREGA scheme introduced during the UPA rule.
Replying to the motion of thanks on the President’s address to Parliament, the Prime Minister also took a dig at Rahul Gandhi a day after the Congress leader attacked the Centre over the Adani crisis.
“After some people’s remarks yesterday in Lok Sabha, entire ‘ecosystem’ and their supporters were jubilant,” he said, adding that some were so happy with the speech, they didn’t even come today, apparently referring to Rahul’s absence from the proceedings.
His speech was filled with potshots at the Congress.
“UPA’s trademark was to let every opportunity turn into crisis from 2004-2014,” he said.
